Cisco WLC 8.0.120 - No APs join after new license installed

Something I wanted to share with everyone after we installed 200 AP Licenses to two (2) virtual Wireless LAN Controllers and had a complete outage after a reboot. The reboot is required for the new licenses to take affect.

To provided some background here, the two (2) virtual Wireless LAN Controllers each had 1 x 100 AP licenses already installed.

We received the PAK for the new licenses and Cisco Licensing team provided 2 x 200 licenses instead of 2 x 100 licenses which when added to the existing 100 licenses would have made 200 total on each of the WLC.

I uploaded the new licenses via TFTP to each of the vWLC and this showed up under Licenses.

I scheduled a reboot of the controllers the next morning at 5am and whilst they came back up, NO access points would join at all with the message

"Maximum number of AP supported has already joined"

I went into the license section of the WLC and removed the old 100 WLC licenses which were set as unused and within a minute after doing this AP's joined the controllers again.

I suspect this is due to the 200 AP platform limit of the Virtual WLC (vWLC) 8.0.120, although the 100 AP licenses were set as unused.

Below is what was visible under Management > Software Activation > Licenses after the reboot when no AP's would join:

Below is an image of Management > Software Activation > Licenses after the original 100 AP license was removed using the blue dropdown arrow on the right (in image above)
